Tip of the Month

“The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place” – George Bernard Shaw

The most common complaint we hear from volunteers is that they applied for a volunteer role but the organisation never contacted them. Sometimes this is true, but often it turns out the organisation attempted to contact them, for example by leaving a voice message. The organisation assumed the volunteer got it and didn’t bother to reply, the volunteer assumed the organisation didn’t bother to contact them. Our advice – try sending an email as well as leaving a message or a text, just in case someone has problems with either phone or email. Volunteers – check your messages and emails please. Remember, whether you are the organisation or the volunteer you can always give us a call and ask us to find out what is happening.
